We Install Boston’s Best Restaurant
Fire Suppression Systems

Extinguishing fires in a commercial kitchen isn’t a simple matter of throwing a bucket of water on the stove. Flames feed on the high temperature oils, gas, paper, wood, and cloth found in restaurant kitchens. The resulting destruction can be harmful to life, property, and the environment.

Any kitchen that has cooking equipment that involves grease requires a kitchen fire suppression system due to the heightened risk of fire associated with the heat from the flame of your cooking equipment plus the grease that is being produced. A properly functioning restaurant fire suppression system can help keep your employees, customers, and building safe in the event that the worst should happen.

As the number of restaurants in Massachusetts has grown, industry standards were established to combat these dangerous fires. One Call Ventilation uses the full range of suppression systems to reduce the opportunity for fires. We will install, inspect, repair and service the most up-to-date wet chemical systems for restaurants.

One Call Ventilation Is A ProTex Certified Distributor

ProTex is a pre-engineered UL 300 fire suppression system.

What Is UL 300? UL 300 (“Standard for Testing of Fire Extinguishing Systems for the Protection of Restaurant Cooking Surfaces”) is a safety standard created by Underwriters Laboratories in 1994 to curtail the threat posed by grease fires in commercial kitchen areas. This standard was established in response to changing trends in restaurant cooking techniques. The growing use of vegetable oils and energy-efficient cooking appliances meant that kitchen fires, when they occurred, tended to be more difficult to control than in the past. As a result, it became necessary to update standard restaurant safety equipment.

UL 300 calls on owners of commercial kitchens to install and properly maintain kitchen hood fire suppression systems that are capable of putting out grease fires. It lists a number of requirements that UL 300 fire suppression systems must comply with, such as the inclusion of automatic fuel shut-offs and manual pull stations.

Required Fire System Inspections

One Call is fully licensed and insured by the State fire Marshal (MA,NH and RI) to perform the required bi-annual fire system inspections.

If you operate a commercial kitchen, you know how important your fire suppression system is to protecting your kitchen and the people that work in it in the event of a fire. Regular inspection and maintenance as required by the 2017 Edition of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 17A Standard for Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems is critical to keep your system in good working order.

The NFPA 17A requires a full inspection of your system at least twice a year (semiannually) and after any activation.

About Fire Extinguishers

Employees Should Be Trained in Use of Fire Extinguisher

It’s not enough to simply have a Class K fire extinguisher. Everyone on the restaurant’s staff, from the general manager to the newly-hired waitress should be trained on using the extinguisher. Local fire departments will often hold training sessions, and sending your employees, especially your kitchen staff, to these events could some day save your restaurant and could possibly lower your insurance rates.

Fire Extinguishers Don’t Last Forever

Most people, especially restaurant owners and managers, are aware that fire extinguishers have a shelf life and will need to be serviced within a set amount of time. Knowing when your fire extinguisher is set to expire is important, but there are also some situations that require immediate attention.

First and foremost, if it has been used, it should be serviced to ensure that it still has enough pressure and chemicals. If the nozzle or hose look worn, or if the handle is wobbly, you may have a problem. If the locking pin is missing or unsealed, or if the inspection sticker or tag is missing or incorrect, don’t wait for an inspector to find out, get it replaced or serviced immediately.

One Call services extinguishers, recharging, repairing and inspecting them as required by code.

How Many Fire Extinguishers Do You Need?

We all see them and know they’re there – the fire extinguishers placed in our buildings in case a fire should strike.
But do you have enough to ensure that your building is up to code and are they strategically placed to increase the safety of those inside who may have to use them?

A basic NFPA rule is that there should be no more than 75 feet between fire extinguishers and that they should be accessible. Naturally, then, the square footage contained in a building and its layout will determine the number needed.

A K-Class however, must be within 30′ of the hood system.

These are just some of the considerations. For a full explanation, you should study NFPA 10 and OSHA Safety and Health Regulations for Construction 1926.150: Fire Protection.

ONE CALL; they do it ALL!!! These guys have got to be the most professional down to earth individuals I’ve ever dealt with. I contacted this company to install a hood system for my pizzeria. What we thought was an easy project turned into a nightmare! Scott, Kevin and the rest of the team went out of their way working with the obstacle course the town put us through. No extra charge. No hidden games. These guys always checked in with me; continued to work with my other contractors and town inspectors to make sure installation was done properly. I’d recommend this company to anyone who wants a headache free experience with installation done to all code/regulation standards. You won’t be disappointed!!! Thanks guys!

Neko Salameh, Restaurant Owner

I want to keep this short and to the point….These 2 individuals that came to my restaurant this past Monday at Maekha Thai could not have been any more professional, personable, just so caring about the end result of the work they were performing. They treated this as if it were their own restaurant and made sure through the whole process that I was given the details needed to understand what they were doing and why!!! Scott, I believe may be the owner, not sure, but everyone in the front office needs to be aware that as an employer myself you really are fortunate to have these 2 as a team effort…WOW!! Anyone looking for great work, good attitudes, cleaning up after the work is done this is your company to deal with. Over and Out…Roger, Wilko!!

Chef Lou, Maekha Thai, Revere, MA

This was our first time opening up a food stall in Burlington. We had problems left and right but One Call helped us resolve all of them. My wife and I cant thank these guys enough for all that they have done. If all goes well with our place, we will definitely use One Call again. Thank you so much for everything guys. If anyone needs to have a hood vent system installed, please dont hesitate and call them. I would give 10 stars but it only allows 5. Thanks again for everything guys!

Maria Loffredo, Vico Ristorante Italiano, Norwood, MA

Cleaned better than any other company I’ve used! I had our hood cleaned yesterday by One Call and the crew was professional and courteous. Left the shop looking bettet than when they arrived and we left it clean! Great Job!

Joey Lacey, Jenny's Pizza, Charlestown, MA

I’ve been in restaurant business for over 20, one call ventilation is by far the best company we have used. They do it all, repairs in the middle of the night and do cleanings. Our hoods have never been cleaner, the go to the roof rain or shine. I would recommend them to anyone, having a hood system.

Sam Degan, Restaurant Owner

I do not leave many reviews, but when I do it is because I have found a company I can trust and rely upon. I just completed a commercial kitchen build out and it would not have been possible without the expertise of Scott and his team at One Call Ventilation. These guys helped engineer, fabricate, and install a very impressive system. We were faced with many challenges both structurally and through the permitting process. I gotta tell you, these guys went above and beyond the call of duty! I am grateful for choosing One Call Ventilation. I look forward to my next build out with these guys!

Luke Kenney, Restaurant Owner

One Call has installed hoods in all six of our restaurants in a very professional and timely manner. I highly recommend Scott and his team to for your ventilation needs.

John Cabot, Restaurant Owner

Customer service is not dead! Even better than the job they do is the service they provide. Restaurant managers don’t have time to stress about preventative maintenance more than they have to. Literally, one call and it’s all set. Follow up, reminder calls… one less thing I have to worry about.
